MOT House Inspection

A house MOT Inspection puts your property under the microscope. We will look at every aspect of your home in incredible detail. Even a bedroom has over 60 checks carried out on it, the kitchen and bathrooms have dozens more.

We inspect the outside of your property, starting at your gate, driveway and paths.

We inspect the state of the roof, chimney, gutters, fascias, walls, windows and doors. If you have a garden we will look at the hedges or fencing, patios and decking areas, even the size, state and position of trees.

Nothing is overlooked.

• Electrical - We check sockets, light switches, fittings even the bulbs. Your wiring, earthing and consumer board are all looked at.
• Plumbing - Wastes, taps, toilets, baths, showers and basins are inspected right down to the plugs.
• Heating - Your radiators, boiler, immersion heater, thermostats and heating controls are all checked.
• Kitchen - Everything from the hob and oven to the hinges and handles on your kitchen cupboards are inspected.
• Stoves & Fireplaces - Is your stove safe? Is it fitted properly, is the chimney drawing as it should?.
• Doors and Windows - Do they work correctly, are there issues with locks, keys, handles, hinges, glazing?
• Fascias, Bargeboarding & Guttering - From checking the gutters are clear of debris to making sure the trim around your home is in good repair, we check it all.
• Building Structure - We check the state of the roof, ensure the chimney is safe and not suffering from deterioration or has vegetatiion causing problems. We look for cracks in walls or blocked air bricks that can cause damp issues.
• Drains - Inspected to see they are clear and doing the job they are intended for.

   Air Quality Survey

The air we breathe should be as free from harmful content as it is possible to be. Poor quality air leads to breathing problems and long term health issues in too many people. Outside we can't affect the quality of the air we breathe in but at home we can. It should be the priority of every householder to ensure the air quality inside their own home is of the highest possible standard. Our Air Quality Survey will help you achieve that.

We test for a wide range of indicators that will lead us to be able to determine the overall quality of the air in your home. We can even show where there might be harmful mold spores or particulates present that can make those already prone to asthma worse or make those with no prior symptoms more susceptible.

• Carbon Monoxide (CO) - often called the 'hidden killer', you might never know it's there until it's too late
• Carbon Dioxide (CO2) - present all the time but too much can make you drowsy and lead to long term health conditions
• Formaldehyde (CH02) - used in a surprisingly large number of industrial processes and products
• Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) - created by burning and can easily be present in harmful quantities
• Super FIne Particulate Matter (PM2.5) - the pollution in the air that is droplets or particles. PM2.5 is the particularly nasty version that stays suspended for longer and pernetrates deeper in to our lungs.
• Coarser Particulate Matter (PM10) - a slightly larger version of pollutants that are still 5-7 times smaller than the width of a human hair.
• Relative Humidity - the amount of moisture present in the air you are breathing. Too low and you get dust, too high and you could well end up with mold. Either way it's bad for you not to have the corect moisture content in your breathable air.
• Temperature - there is an optimum ambient temperature for the human body (18-21°C).

We use sophisticated test equipment to take readings and use our custom analytical software to create a report based on current best health guidelines as to what levels are safe. We can tell you if the air in your home is safe to breathe or whether it could be causing you harm.

   WiFi & Broadband Survey

A healthy Internet connection has never been more important but do you know whether yours is up to scratch? Are you getting the service you are paying for and is it the best available? What about the WiFi signal in your home? Stop putting up with the frustration of having to wait too long for 'stuff' to happen or finding that your connection drops out during that important Zoom call, or that the TV suddenly fails to connect to your favourite streaming service.

We test for a wide range of indicators that allows us to determine the overall quality of the WiFi and Broadband in your home.

• Broadband speed tests - We test the upload and download speeds of your ADSL connection to ensure that your ISP is providing you with the service you are paying for.
• ADSL signal clarity test- The signal into your router can be affected by the local exchange, the integrity of the incoming line or even the filter you have connected at your phone socket. We can help find issues that could potentially be leading to interference which are resulting in you receiving slow & poor quality data transfer.
• Router health check - Is your router behaving as it should? Are you using the correct channels to avoid contention issues? We can establish whether some simple tweaks can make things better or if you need a new router.
• Bandwidth analysis - Is a user or device hogging the bandwidth on your network making the experience painfully slow for everyone else? We can see who is connected and how much of your bandwidth they are using by employing the latest router sniffer tools. In some instances this identifies someone outside your home that is 'piggy-backing' off your service and stealing bandwidth from you.
• Weak WiFi signal areas - By using a signal strength meter we can identify any areas in your home where the signal is less than optimum.
• Latency, Jitter and Interference are tested and graded against industry accepted norms.
• Suggested fixes

Our tests will assess the service you receive in your home via your ISP and also look in detail at the routers and access points in your home that deliver the WiFi to your devices. We are ususally able to determine the root cause of any issues you might be having - slow downloads, dropped connection, poor quality Zoom calls etc. We cut through the mystique and deliver a no-nonsense report within 48 hours of the survey.

   Radon Survey

Don't let this odorless, invisible radioactive gas build up in your home. Find out how much is there and how to reduce the levels of this potentially harmful gas.

Some places have more elevated levels but any property can harbour significant amounts if the conditions allow.

We take air samples and monitor for the presence of Radon in your home and have them analysed by one of the UKs most scientifically advanced laboratories using the latest gamma spectrometry and liquid scintillation techniques.

Our report, which will be available within 48 hours of receiving the lab results back (on average 2 weeks after the survey) contains all the information you need to make informed decisions.
